Cute Rose Pins
Over the last few days i’ve been making lots of these lovely rose pins. They brighten up any old blazer or dress, and you can use up your odd-bits of DK wool to create them in any colours you wish.
You will need a set of 3.75mm and 4.5mm knitting needles and a brooch pin (you can use a safety pin if you haven’t got any brooch pins).
Flower Petals
Cast on 91stitches with 4.5 needles and knit one row.
Next Row: P2 [K1, slip this stitch back onto left hand needle, then slip the next 10 stitches, one at a time over the knitted stitch and off the left hand needle, slip stitch back onto right hand needle. Repeat until only two stitches remain] p2.
Next Row: Knit one row. Cut wool and thread through the remaining 12 stitches to make a circle.
Flower Centre
Still with 4.5mm needles, cast on 15 stitches and work 4 rows in stocking stitch. On the right side row, join in a lighter shade if you have it (optional) to create the picot row and [k2tog, yf] to end.
Beginning with a p row, work 4 rows in stocking stitch.
Cast off. Fold in half along the picot row, and join up cast-on row to cast off edge. Roll this strip to form the rose centre and stitch in place.
Leaves
With 3.75mm needles cast on 8 stitches and purl one row.
Next Row: Skpo, k to last 2 stitches, k2tog. P1 row Repeat these two rows until only 2 stitches remain - k2tog and fasten off. Stitch all parts together to create the flower, and sew the brooch pin to the back.
